A long weekend over already and I feel as though I have done absolutely nothing.

In reality, I:

Put in several hours at the zoo helping to compile the ACA accreditation application.
Got my hair cut and colored. Actually blow dried and curled my hair too.
Went grocery shopping. Did laundry. Cleaned the apartment.
Slept in. AND woke up before my alarm clock.
Helped make some fantastic pizza crust. Then helped make some fantastic pizza.
Sampled some homemade beer. Also, sampled some of my favorite beer.
Watched the physical manifestation of "opposite day" and it's effects on wii sports.
Looked up a bunch of scientific names for various coral reef exhibit critters.
Saw Catch and Release, thereby using up "roommate bonding time" for the week.
Nearly had an emotional breakdown in Ikea. Ate swedish meatballs.
Brought home a bunch of goodies for the apartment after said near-breakdown.

And stuff.

I think I could seriously get into a Murder She Wrote marathon.

Thanks to my roommate I saw two of the most disturbing movies ever last night. (Also, he wants you to think this post was his idea too...)

But really. Since none of you would go with me this fall I had to settle for the Saw III experience in my own room. Which was fine because you all would have laughed really hard at me all crunched up in my seat at the theater, periodicly sqealing and hiding. It wasn't so much scary (unless you consider the possibility of any of that happening to you) but it was an utter gore-fest, the likes of which you rarely see. The story was weak, the ending was predictable (and a little Finding Nemo - enough already!) but none of that was the point of that movie, was it? no.

So, in an effort not to dream of hooded pig-faced boogeymen in my closet, I popped in Jesus Camp. A nice little documentary about evangelical christians. The main subject lost me about two minutes in when she began talking about how there is a much more christian friendly environment in the country over the last few years, due in large part to George W. Bush having brought such credibility to the christian faith. She compared her jesus camp to the boot camps of little kids in the middle east that you see learning how to carry rifles and become little suicide bombers. Her little soldiers of god... "because, excuse me, *we* have the truth." She also said that the liberals out there watching this should be very scared. Very worried to see the intensity of these little soldiers of god that will become our politicians, etc. This right after we were told by another man that 25% of the country is made up evangelical christians, enough to sway any election. Obviously this was produced before last fall. Or you need to reevaluate your indocrination process. Or many it's too soon and your soldiers aren't old enough to vote yet. Anyway, it was both interesting and disturbing to get a glimpse of such radical people.

I RULE!

I just sucked it up, went to the gym, renewed my membership, and ran 3 miles like it hasn't been 6 months. I am so amped up right now, I don't know what to do with myself. Seriously, it was a way latent characteristic, and I never would have seen it coming, but despite my laziness and lack of motivation, I AM A RUNNER. And it felt good to be back in the game. Can you say endorphins? WOOOO!

Ok, but seriously, this summer I WILL run my 5ks on a 10 minute mile pace. And I will RULE.

Now to stuff my face with a plate of veggies, then enjoy a brief tahitian getaway before escaping to my favorite haven... bed!

I thought maybe I broke the internet, but it may have just been someone in my apartment complex. Which makes me wonder if I broke the interent... because what are the chances that someone else here would have caused liquidweb to put a block on the complex's IP?

The good news is, I can now access my own domain via my own router! WOW! Technology is awesome!

Some of my favorite things in the world (today):

Kitties. (And monorails!) Fuzzy, warm, wonderful, pink slippers. Boys in glasses. Snyder's Buffalo Wing pretzel chunks. Robot wrapping paper. (And boxers!) Hazelnut Roast candles. Stacks of cash. David. Oh, David....

And let's not forget the raving rabbits shall we? LOVE the raving rabbits.

(Try clicking here if the video doesn't work for you. Please let me know if it doesn't!)

Stay tuned for tomorrow's love-fest.

"...Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure... Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you."

There is a small clutch of people I miss dearly. A group around which I felt wildy powerful, and important, and beautiful and as though we really were makers of magic. Even on my best days, I'm afraid I never quite feel as happy as I did with them. Maybe it's just because I'm older, more disenchanted, jaded... I don't like to use those words to describe myself though. Me, the eternal idealist. Can I have really given up hope?

No. It's just that hoping takes so much energy. Energy I didn't have to expend around them because there was nothing more to hope for in those days.

It's so comforting to be reminded that they aren't gone. They're not as close, but only the touch of a few buttons away. And they still love me, and make me smile, and give me warm fuzzies. And they're still makers of magic.

Miss you!

"And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." - M. Williamson

Because I don't, as a rule, think before I speak... The adverse reactions of people to whatever truely insensitive thing I have said are often unexpected.

None of this is all that surprising. What *does* occasionally catch me off guard is my own reaction to those reactions. Huh.

Here's hoping I've done no irreparable damage.

I'm ok with small boys with broken horns. You heard it here first. And in 28 days maybe you'll get some pictures.

I honestly found myself hesitating...

So, I surpassed the 100 friend mark on myspace the other day. I didn't even think I knew 100 people. But I have been pretty diligent about not adding people I don't actually know and not adding bands and stuff, so I do, in fact know 100 people.

Here's a little informative breakdown for you:

29 of my friends I met working at Walt Disney World.

21 of my friends I "bought" and were worth every penny! They're my Phi Mu dreamgirls.

13 of my friends went to Waverly with me.

8 of my friends I met at Mystic Lake Camp.

3 of my friends are of the lifelong-family-friends variety. Of the annual Ludington clan, of course.

2 of my friends are family members.

2 of my friends are from the zoo.

1 of my friends is a band, but it's Ryan's band so, really... Ryan is just my friends twice.

20 of my friends don't fall into those major categories.

Several of my friends fall into multiple categories. I put Kelly in the Phi Mu category, but She's really a Disney friend too. I put Erica in the Camp category, but she's really a Phi Mu too, etc.

Also, I realize the above math doesn't equal 100, but I can tell you exactly who the other two are. Silly profile deleters. And incedently that would be one more for Phi Mu, and one more miscellaneous, though... even though he's a guy I did technically meet him through Phi Mu... hmmm....

I feel like I've started to post about 7 times this year, but haven't seemed to make it happen.

What's new... what's new...

I've already put in some hours at the zoo. We're doing some observations while introducing a few new species to each other in a mixed exhibit in the Bird and Reptile house. I've spend 4 hours watching cotton top tamarins harass plush crested jays, which is the exact opposite of what we expected. I've also been helping assemble our 2007 AZA accreditation application... in septuplicate. That's been pretty interesting too. But the best news is... rumor has it there will be a new arrival at the zoo tomorrow. A big beautiful new male bongo, who could in theory be a breeder. Our female is pretty old though. We'll see. Either way it will be nice to have another bongo around again.

I saw Children of Men and am fully prepared to declare it the best movie of 2007. I get that it's only the second week of the year, but my god. That was a damn good movie. It was intense and muddy and suspenseful and touching and thought-provoking and muddy and sci-fi-tastic and everything I could have hoped it would be. It truly was a "Blade Runner for the 21st century". Part of what made it so engaging is that it's set in the really scarily NOT too distant future, and the horror that takes place is all too believable. I don't really have words to do it justice, so go NOW and see for yourself. But get there early because the theater will be surprisingly PACKED. Because apparently the previews just make it look TOO awesome. Fortunately, no one will be disappointed.

I've been tracking down timing services for a 5k run we're doing in September to support Mystic Lake Camp. I'm pretty excited about it. It'll be up at the camp, out on the trails. It'd great to get to help plan it too. I like to be involved.

Things are really slowing down at work and I can almost catch my breath again. In fact, I'm taking 4 half days this week! I'm pretty ready for the Semi-Annual Sale to wind down and normalcy to resume.

What am I forgetting? hrm. Whatever.

Surprisingly, so far 2007 rules.

Friends have already exceeded my expectations. One in particular did wonders for me last night, but I never underestimated him.

I started out the new year with a solid 10 hours of sleep and a clean kitchen.

Cookies!

So far, all I've done this year is sit around in my pajamas and watch the Twilight Zone. AWESOME!

I was bequeathed a tastey filet mignon.

So far... I've managed to turn a blind eye to the yuck, and look on the bright side. Which is really all anyone can hope for. So, here's to us and to a new year... on the bright side. Best wishes to all of you!
