And please give me direction, I think I just caved in...In a miraculous feat of sheer will and determination I managed to finish off the year with EXACTLY my required 30 education hours and 20 general volunteer hours at the zoo. With a whole day to spare! I honestly didn't think it was going to happen. I did, as always, have a good time when I was actually gabbing with the visitors, but most of the time I just really didn't want to be there. I didn't want to be around people. I wanted to implode. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. And ya know what? I'm going to nip the ensuing thought process in the bud. Because you really don't want to hear it. Yeah, Champagne!

My first President died today. Yes, that pretty much makes me older than all of you.

The sci-fi-tasticity of my dvd collection has just hurdled headlong into "out of this effing world". Just for the record.More about the holiday loot and festivities later. Now for some good old fashioned cleaning, laundry, napping, and if I don't pass out... dinner. And a movie. Where to start... oh! How about the appropriate "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". Yes, quite.

Sometimes... Sometimes it's best not to let your roommate find out that when you're feeling emotionally unstable you're prone to bake about 100 cookies, especially if they are likely to be his favorite kinds. That's just a recipe for disaster. Sometimes when things work out crappily one day, they turn out ok later. Times like those you get to eat lunch with your Schmerica. Sometimes people may not realize that I notice that they are good listeners... whether that means being infintely patient when I vent at the end of a long day, or when we're just hanging out and they pick up on perfect Christmas present ideas I never would have thought to ask for. I notice. Thank you! Sometimes movies depress me. Usually not the ones about rockets or Godzilla. Sometimes 11 minutes with your best friend is all you could ask for. Even if it is "virtually". Sometimes the best way to relieve stress is to look at insanely cute bunnies. And kitties, and pandas... Sometimes there are monkeys.

Surprise, Surprise... We all sound like we are from where we are actually from. Go figure... Even after I spent 4 years neutralizing my aaaaaccent. (I wish you could get that nasty Michigan aaaaaa sound to come across in type. You know what I mean.) Brian of Iowa, you need to take the quiz and see what you come up with. You have the most neutral accent of anyone on the planet, except for the thoroughly incorrect way you pronounce Chicago.

Wine Night featuring special guest, Lyle Lovett:![]() Here are just a few highlights from Wine Night as recorded by the duely elected Secretary of Wine Night. 1) The Ex-Girlfriend has evolved. It's no longer just equal parts Whiskey, Gin, Vodka, Tequila, Kalua, and Apple Pucker. It is now just whatever 6 ingredients you find on your bar. 6 bad decisions. For example, this year's Ex-Girlfriend included Tequila, Vodka, Rum, Whiskey, Triplesec, and Kalua. Bon appétit! Shad is the only man brave enough to have consumed both variations. 2) A "jallon gug" of wine later and Kate manages to get another girl in her pants. 3) The election results are in and the official 2007 Wine Night Cabinet is as follows: Prime Minister: Grandpa Joe Viceroy: Darth Vino (aka 8bit) Secretary: Hero Brewmaster: Paul Hydration Director: Kate Directional Coordinator: Tom Tom Booster Club Captain: Beth Social Chair: Hero Maybe we should go all Greek-Like and make T-shirts... So, the most amazing thing happened to me the other day. I was all wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of my store a couple weekends before Christmas, flitting from customer to customer, making sure everything was running smoothly, lost in a bubble or red and sparkly and holiday music. After thanking some customers for shopping, I turned to check my sales and walking directly toward me was a small asian boy. He approached me purposefully and with his eyes down he reached out silently and handed me a small pale blue origami crane. For just a moment the sounds of retail during the holidays faded, time slowed, and such peace... serenity came over me. I held out my hand and think managed to say, "thank you". He proceeded to exit the store without a word. I lost sight of him in the crowd, and as far as I know, much like the Oktoberfest leprechaun in Munich, he disappeared in poof of smoke as soon as he turned the corner. A little anecdote doesn't do it justice, but I'll keep that crane for a long time. A small asian boy silently blessing you with an origami crane must be as lucky as a butterfly landing on you.

Preamble: Aw. About 40 days in a row and then I miss one.Post: Anyway, as the Secretary of Wine Night, I look forward to posting "tomoor wmorning"* when I have better control of my thoughts and fingers. *tomoor wmorning is the new official spelling of tomorrow morning. Don't get caught spelling it wrong. Basically what Gus is saying is that 90% of any of this will make sense to about 10% of my readers, and sometimes that's the way I like it.

Sometimes days off work out better than others. Usually I get nothing done and while I enjoy the lounging around, I tend to regret it later.Today, I went on a top secret mission (unlikely things in unlikely places!), learned to make bread (delicious and dense!), watched a movie about space (SPACE!), explored the zoo with my favorite 2 year old ever (no santa, no santa!), distracted someone who should know better with my musical analysis (lost cause!), watched Battlestar Galactica (SPACE!) and... well, the night isn't over, is it?

Today I saw two episodes of ST:TNG that I'm not 100% sure I had seen before. At least not in the last 10 years. Also, I think I figured out the source of my anxiety. And finally, I have to (get to?) go make gingerbread houses now.

Mental note: Heals = supercute. Heals for 9 hours on a hardwood floor with no break = reeeeeally bad idea. but supercute. Also, I'm hungry and in grave need of a trip to meijer. I still have to watch BSG from last week and Heroes from this week. I have stuff for work that is so overdue it's not even funny. I reeeeally need to decorate the apartment in a more festive fashion and really need to aquire a tree-like object to effectively do so. And the good news is, tomorrow is my day off and I probably will accomplish none of that!

The bad news: I spent a lot of money I don't really have on clothes this evening. The good news: This sweater looks pretty fantastic on me.

Ack. This fluctuating schedule is KILLING me. I could really go for some stability right now. Some structure. There's a lot I WANT to accomplish right now, but I generally find myself too tired or unmotivated to make anything happen. I know once* I get myself going I'm usually fine and can sustain my productive momentum for awhile. It's just making the changes and truly finding the inspiration to get started. *(Here's a weird way my brain works: When I type I really do so in a conversational way, thinking very much in words and sounds. Above when I was thinking "I know ONCE I get myself...", I initially typed "I know WHAT'S I get myself..." instead. Rereading it I couldn't figure out what I was trying to say at first, but then I realized how similar the SOUNDS are. It's as though my hands misheard my mind. Odd...)

Never fails. The more I have racing around *IN* my head, the less I can actually get *OUT*.

so there was a Dunkin' Donuts kiosk in the Navy Exchange mini-mart in Pearl Harbor...Every story should start like that. Even if it just continues with: ...and they sold donuts, which reminds me that today went much better than yesterday as, so far, I have remained sweaty-weepy-breathless anxiety-attack free. And also I stayed in bed all day watching Kung Fu and listening to the rain. And my roommate shared his frosty with me because he is a saint, the likes of which this world does not deserve. Additionally, my best friend actually called me for once and sent me pictures of his wee little kitty stuck in his Christmas tree. And, because being the hostess is what I like best, I got to welcome the great city of Lansing to the Wonderland of Lights at PPZ. I got to schmooze and greet and direct and educate and inform and wander and wish I weren't holding a clipboard but someone else's hand while walking through the lights listening to a really bad middle school choir sing carols through the misty and chilly zoo.
