The Magic 8 Ball was more right that I ever could have known.

Also, drinking with g is never a good idea.  I'm sure I'll feel even more strongly about that when I leave for work in the morning so I might as well post it now.

I just bought a plane ticket to London!  Europe, here I come!

I have listened to nothing but public radio for well over a week now.  I mean, I enjoy belting out the power ballads while driving down the highway as much as the next person, but what the hell has become of commercial radio.  It makes me want to steer into a ravine.  So, thanks to michigan radio, I am less annoyed and way smarter.

SCIENCE!

ok, so here's what you'll need:

A large pot of boiling water
Some Dry Ice.  (We used MAYBE half a pound.  More would be fun.)
Some Dish Detergent

Super easy, but way fun.  First, boil your water, then add... um, a quarter cup or less Dish Detergent.  Take this boiling pot outside... probably on the grass (though we think we may have killed some!)  Next, toss some Dry Ice chunks into the pot (be sure to use a glove!).

Billions of bubbles instantly!  wa-hoo!  The pot will overflow with tons of soap bubbles... but not just any soap bubbles.  These bubbles aren't clear, but filled with "smoke".  It's actually Carbon Dioxide vapor (yeah, sublimation!)  When you pop some of the bubbles the "smoke" escapes and looks pretty cool.

"That’s right if there’s science involved then the Mensa fueled Galactic Hero can't be far behind. With her trusty sidekick the B-wil nothing is safe from their gauntlets of learning!"

Perhaps I need to start a new feature section here:  SCIENCE!

I have a boat load of easy do-it-yourself activities stored in my brain at this very moment.  Perhaps what would be best for the galaxy is if you all run out and get your science on.  I'll work on that.  In the mean time, here is your first mission, via 8bit

"In a few days you should observe that nothing has happened but you do have one hell of a funny story to tell, and you used SCIENCE!"

While we're being blunt...  (AKA: Just another terribly personal open letter on the internet)

After mocking someone for either being the most passive aggressive asshole in the world or the stupidest man alive I was asked a question tonight that took me a little by surprise, and in retrospect I feel a more in-depth answer would be beneficial:

No, you certainly aren't taking advantage of me or my time.  However, I'm afraid that there are two other people in this scenario who may not be able to say the same.  I do a good job of looking out for myself, but it may be in your best interest to protect your own feelings, and perhaps more importantly... those of other people you care about.

That may not come off as friendly and lighthearted as I intended it... but at least I didn't tell you, "I hate you and if you ever come near me again I'll kill you and your whole damn family."  Regardless, I know you well enough to know that either I'm making no sense at all or you'll over think and misread every word... that's always fun.  Anyway, we'll chat.

Here's a funny for Republicans and Democrats alike:

http://jibjab.com/thisland.html

Girl G  (not to be confused with "boy g") recently got to meet baby Kianga.  I thought some of you would appreciate her report, so without further ado, I introduce....

The Daily G:

Wow...what an interesting experience. Elephants are such massive creatures.

I was among the first few people (other than Animal people) to see Kianga. She is 10 days old and weighed 225 lbs. today.

Vasha, the mother, Kianga (the baby) and Fiki (an "aunt") were all in a backstage area getting acclaimated with one another. The animal keeper told us that both elephants are monitored 24 hours a day for changes in behaviour since new mothers often get freaked out and may sometimes deny the baby. Since elephant culture is very matriarchal, other female elephants are introduced to the baby so that they can get used to each other.

Kianga was much much smaller than I expected her to be. She's kind of like some big dog, but her body is shorter in length than a big dog's body would be. Her legs are probably about the thickness of my calves, but they're only about 2/3 the height of my legs. Her head is about level with my waist, so she's teeny...for an elephant. I would say that the baby is just about the size of her mother's head. She has a halo of fuzzy hair all over her body which makes her look like a baby instead of just a mini-adult elephant. Her ears were tucked back almost the whole time, except for the occasional flap. And since you're all looking at a computer screen to read this, her ears were probably about the size of the monitor. Her trunk is probably about 4" in diameter and about a foot long. Her tail came out with a little bend to it, which is cute. (Kind of pig-gy) She can BARELY reach her mother to nurse which is really funny to see. She has to lift a front leg and use her trunk to suction on to her for balance. It's so cute. I didn't think I'd be so moved to see the elephants in such an intimate setting, but it was pretty amazing. And Fiki, the aunt, was just enormous! 1800 pounds or something. She was the one that made me a little nervous. We saw her give Kianga a big nudge when she was walking around by her feet. I guess I would probably learn to steer clear of those giant things, too.

Unfortunately, there was no photography allowed (welcome to Disney's backstage areas!), but hopefully I could give you a bit of an idea of what it was like to see. I know some of you are very interested, and others may not care all that much, but it was a neat experience. Magical, even!

Oh, Disney!

$122 and 13 Target stores later, I now have a "complete" set of the most wonderful dinnerware.  I had my eye on it for months and *poof*!  It got clearanced out and disappeared almost immediately.  I didn't think I would ever track down enough of it to make it worth while, but with the help of b wil and my mom, I now not only have enough to entertain 12, I also got it at less than 50% of the original cost.  Yeah!

In other news, a little over a week ago DAK welcomed it's second baby elephant! Kianga is just the cutest and I'm sure Tufani will be thrilled to have a companion his own size! (Click photo for full size pic of Kianga and mother, Vasha.)  We're still expecting 2 more next summer.  I just can't wait to see all those litle cuties trampling the savanah!

There is a magical time of day in Michigan when, if I happen to find myself on an open stretch of highway, I am briefly transported back to the Harambe Wildlife Reserve. It last only 20 minutes or so, but you know it because the sun sinks low enough in the sky that it becomes a little more difficult to spot animals without squinting. Only here in Michigan it's not difficult at all, because in every field you can see half a dozen White Tailed Deer grazing. All my life I have seen these deer, brown blobs in green fields. But just now I saw their faces. Their big ears and their black eyes. They are my ungulates. I love ungulates.

When I first saw Fahrenheit 9/11 I thought it was equal parts humorous and appalling, but mostly just really sad (pretty much an incessant flow of tears). I just didn't know what to say about it so I blessed you with the Important Bulletin above.

Seeing it the second time, I guess it was less sad. Or I knew what to expect so I didn't cry. But it was even MORE humorous and even MORE appalling the second time around.

When it comes to politics, I may be passionate, but I'm not the most articulate so I'll save the rants for the likes of Jill and Brian and Mark Morford.

However, sitting through the movie a second time, watching that vacuous, beady-eyed cowboy blunder his way through the simplest of cliche sayings, I couldn't help but be reminded of Jackass. You know how you'd just sit there and watch those guys do and say idiotic things and think to yourself, "Man, what a jackass..."

I think you get what I'm saying.

So go do the most American, patriotic, wonderful thing you can do. See this movie. Ask YOUR OWN questions. Draw YOUR OWN conclusions. Don't be spoon-fed cattle. Be an American.

And for those of you who have learned to think outside the box, don't just sit around being ashamed to be an American. Make being an American something to be proud of again.

"McDonalds is now offering a free music download with the purchase of a Big Mac Extra Value Meal. With an average of 12 songs on a CD, that's about 8100 calories you will need to consume in order to get an album's worth of music. People are willing to slowly kill themselves for free mp3s, I love this country."

I ripped that off of g's away message because i loved it.

"In my dream everybody's got a little house
A dog, a bank account managed by Mickey Mouse"
-Five For Fighting, Disneyland

Five For Fighting rocks. Andy and Amy are dead in a ditch. B Wil owes me one. Or two. I need to go to sleep right this second.

"A pocket is no place for a smile anyway
Someday I will find love again will blow my mind
Maybe it will be that love that got away from me"
-Blues Traveler, 'The Mountains Win Again'

Funny that I quoted Liz Phair the other day. Saw her open for Blues Traveler tonight at Common Ground. What a "completely fucking excellent" show. John Popper jammed his ass off like nothing I've ever seen before. Good times. (aw, that makes me miss Adam!)

I'm completely stoked for Five for Fighting tomorrow. Thrilled!

Meanwhile, you should know I have been home about an hour total this week in which I was not sleeping so I have a lot to write about... just no time or energy. I'll work on that.

"She charms me
And I am undermined
So silky
Do I wanna run my fingers...
Or just run?"

"we're already wet and we're gonna go swimming"

I lied to one of you. Maybe I don't have my shit in order.

During the car ride home, this was going to be a cleverly disguised, two-sided post about a single person, but now sitting at my computer I can only think of the pro-side and have only a vague recollection of the con-side...

oh, wait. i just remembered why you suck! thank you SO much for "supporting" me while I choked down that last shot, and chugged that last beer. and then thank you SO much for egging me on. "maybe i'll get in if you get in." yeah right. but when haven't you been all talk? I should have known better. Meanwhile, I had a moment to remember. wish you were there...

Oh well. This much I know: It takes an immensly uncommon guy to NOT jump in a lake with two drunk chicks in their underwear. While the "live-in-the-moment" side of me feels this was perhaps a tragic misuse of a rare opportunity, some other side of me is glad you stood on the beach and got eaten alive by mosquitos. I don't know what more you could ask of a funstigator... but what girl doesn't think a guy who will look out for her while staying up terribly past his bedtime, risking arrest and pneumonia, is hot?

I feel that in my current state I don't have an "adequate" grasp of the english language to belabor the point, but I hope through my joking you can see a very sincere point. And that is that you are one in a million and that has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. (Despite monday's lame popcorn/cleavage maneuvers.) hahaha. That's me... always with the last laugh.

Anyway, Well played, my friend. I hope you regret it just a little though :)

I would make an incredible stalker. Maybe that isn't a good thing. Anyway, for G and Christina and Jill and anyone else who wants further proof that Brian is still alive and having a jolly good time at camp, I present the "This one time, at Summer Camp - Brian Stalker Web Page". I tediously stole the pics off the Camp Hantesa web site. I have too much time on my hands. But wasn't that a fun game? Like animal spotting on Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Happy Canada Day!
