this is for those of you who thought i was dreaming when i said msu could beat indiana and osu. this is for those of you who rolled your eyes when i said that upon doing so the spartans would be assured a spot in the ncaa tournament. this goes out to all of you who scoffed at the possiblility of msu going to the big dance:

While the Spartans may not be a threat to reach the Final Four for the fourth straight season, Michigan State will get the chance. No team has earned the right more in the past week than the Spartans, who've knocked off its second Big Ten co-leader in as many outings on Tuesday night. The Spartans went into Columbus and beat Ohio State 81-76 to not only create a logjam atop the Big Ten standings, but also assure itself an at-large bid.

now that i am convinced an at-large bid is ours (michigan state's) i can dream even bigger:
i need minnesota and northwestern to each win a key game, and i need michigan to win two. now, I AM LOYAL TO THE HAWKEYES, but let's face it: our (iowa's) only shot to make it into the ncaa tournament is to win the big ten tourney... soooo, once those other teams win the necessary games, and michigan state beats iowa in east lansing... then we'll have a 5-way tie for the big ten season champ!

"i might have mentioned it once over the past couple of days. we're not going to give up our championship. somebody's going to have to take it." -tom izzo

ok, i'm not as lazy as i thought. i got the rest of my olymPICs on my road trip page. lauren and brian have some others that i will steal from them eventually, but for now, head here.

HOOray for having a day off from work and classes!

i have some olymPICs uploaded and ready to go. i'm just too lazy to add them to my picture pages right now. *sigh* i guess though i can at least throw some links your way so you can check them out. here are a few smaples:

pre-olympic team photo in quad
brian the lugemaster
the opposite of 'africa hot': park city cold.
my friend dan and me in park city

on a side note:
i have never found an efficient way to organize photos online. i had/have some thumbnails that open up pop-up windows but my coding was shady or something so most people just get javascript errors. i also have thumbnail links to pics but then once you get there you have to rely on the back button. does anyone have any ingenius, easy and efficient ways to show people my pictures?

brian, who has chosen 'canadian' as a possible occupation, was supposed to be studying all day yesterday. according to my web stats he was stalking me. i wonder how his tests went...

and speaking of web stats... it's a good thing i'm friends with the infamous jarrad nunes because a large preponderance of my search engine hits are looking for him. i don't think anyone would ever find this site if it weren't for me occasionally mentioning him.

(now if i just throw the words 'sorority' and 'porn' in this post i'll be rolling in the hits...)

olympic wrap-up via espn.com:

We'll remember skategate, the gold medal hockey game and Sarah Hughes from the 2002 Winter Olympics. But long after the closing ceremony, there are a hundred other stories worth remembering too, writes Jim Caple.

ah, the human interest stories.

i'm going in to a deep deep depression now that the olympics are over....

i was excited that the spartans knocked those damn buckeyes out of the #1 spot a couple weeks ago, but now it seems we knocked them back in with our victory over indiana yesterday.

(thinking to myself: oh, what i wouldn't give to beat the bucks in columbus this week....)

if that were to happen the spartans would surely make it into the ncaa tourney. (knock on wood and all that jazz)

this is my 'one week to go' big ten season prediction:
12-4 indiana
11-5 ohio state
11-5 wisconsin
10-6 michigan state
10-6 minnesota
9-7 illinois
7-9 northwestern
5-11 iowa
5-11 purdue
5-11 michigan
3-13 penn state

i realize that is a little optimistic, but i don't think it's wholey unrealistic.

based on that prediction i tried to plug in a winner for the big ten tournament, but it was too hard. the top few teams are too evenly matched and unpredictable. plus i couldn't help but coming up with an iowa/msu championship game (damn optimistic team spirit) and beyond that i didn't dare make a prediction without losing half my friends!

the moral of the story is this: in a perfect world the spartans would go to the big dance... and the illini would sit at home and cry.

ok, i personally don't recommend mixing rainbow sherbet, some form of blue fruitopia (windex?) and tequila... but B insists it is pretty good.

however, as long as you feel comfortable seperating your whites from your colors... by all means, drink and do laundry. i mean... the wait may be more entertaining, but the folding might get tricky. i recommend hangers.

yeah... ok, so my saturday night may have been that much more pathetic than yours... but at least i'll wake up with clean clothes...

i'm holding out for something extraordinary. it's out there on the horizon somewhere, i just don't know what it is... i don't know what to shoot for.

then again, maybe where i aim isn't so important. i just need to shoot and maybe something extraordinary will come out.

(yay for therapy...)

while having a really messed up dream i came up with a premise for a kids movie:

"lilo is a little girl in hawaii who adopts a dog who is actually... an alien, a quite evil alien to be precise. you see, stitch is a criminal who was being transported to an intergalactic prison whose ship crashed on earth, and he is posing as a dog (complete with hiding two of his six legs so he will look like a dog) to escape detection from the alien police who are now looking for him..."

oh, wait... that's the new disney flick due out this summer. my bad.

(definitely check out the movie site cuz it has some funny, funny trailers. also, the above premise can be found here.)

i already knew about 'finding nemo', but this is the first i've heard of the NEXT pending pixar flick. and then there will be one. one more pic to complete the contract with disney. i can't wait to see what happens next.

i need to do laundry in the worst way. seriously.

unfortunately i'm broke. it's pretty bad when you're too broke to do laundry. i'm entirely too far from home for my own good! i'm about to be too broke to buy groceries. yay for ragu express!

the good news is... i just got a job. yay for me! i'll be working at a brand new 'teddy bear company' opening in a week or two. so i may be broke... but not for long!

ok, so i'm home safe and sound.

as i mentioned below in our plans for saturday afternoon we met Chris Klug, who won a bronze medal in the giant slolam (snowboarding) after a liver transplant last year. we also did a bit of shopping, watched some medal ceremonies from afar, and participated in some medal ceremonies of our own. that's right, kids. perhaps the highlight of the trip is this:

WE GOT TO LUGE!!!!!

no, really. we luged. we weren't any good. but we also participated in everyone's favorite winter sport; curling! maybe it's the scottish blood in me, but it turns out i'm a natural. i won the gold medal in my heat by getting my second stone a mere 6 inches from 'the house'. let this be your warning: you'll see me on the USA women's curling team in italy for the 2006 winter games!

i think that about sums it all up. the weekend was beyond description. everyone, GO! now! you still have time!

i'm going to write a book called 'how to experience the olympics virtually free'. i've spent less than $15 bucks since thursday and have probably almost that much in free merchandise by now. i'm made free lond distance phone calls, mailed free hallmark cards, drank free coke and eaten free power bars.

since noon friday we convinced the powers that be to give jamie and david their gold medal all ready, went through a snow maze and a norwegian haunted house, hung out with dan jansen and kelly clarke, actually laid eyes on shameful bronze medals, met powder, copper and coal, saw an amazing aerial skiing and snowboarding show, saw fireworks, slept on the bank of a great salt lake, and loitered in Bad Ass Coffee.

still on the menu for today is meeting more snowboarders, doing a little luge and bobsleigh of our own and crashing the ceremony/concert in the olympic medals plaza.

you wish you were me.

spontaneous roadtrip to salt lake city. envy me!

HOOray for jimmy neutron: boy genius getting an academy award nomination!

it's about time they create a 'best animated feature film' category. although in past years there wouldn't be much competition, i suppose. think of all the oscars disney could have by now...

while i'm afraid the popular vote might go to shrek, i'm hoping the academy has better taste than that. it was swell and all... but i think the animation quality and the originality of the monsters, inc. storyline were superior to that of everyone's favorite ogre. i'm kinda pulling for my good friend JN though, because seriously i'm jealous of his bedroom wallpaper and i NEED to go to 'retroland'! also, i think nickelodeon has really been kicking butt lately. their cartoons are better than what the disney channel is serving up and they have been pumping out full length features (even if they are mediocre). if nick gets the nod with jimmy neutron i think disney will have some thinking to do. a little healthy competition might be exactly what disney needs to get back on track.

i've seen the event at least 3 times now and i want to boycott figure skating after last night's heartbreaking judging atrocity. which leads me to an interesting personal discovery...

i think the reason i have found my self glued to the olympics is the same reason some people gag at the thought. it's the 'human interest' stories. i mean, come on... it's no surprise i'm a sucker for reality teevee, and let's face it: it doesn't get any better than this. how can you not sit glued to your teevee hoping those monopolizing russians will finally lose? how can you not cheer for the adorable canadians in by far the coolest figure skating costumes of all time? then there's the snowboarder who was competing in honor of her dead brother, the USA speed skater who skated a perfect race then watched his best friend, training buddy, and canadian competitor fall five feet off the start line, the little russian figure skater who didn't stand a chance at a medal but skated through the pain of a BROKEN FOOT demonstrating the olympic spirit... call me a sucker, but maybe it makes me feel that much closer to the human race. that much closer to the rest of the world... no matter how different their lives, their STORIES, they all have the same goals, the same passions. it's all very touching, really.

now, let's all step back from the olympics for a second a acknowledge THE sporting event of my evening. i don't really want to say anything because i'm THAT superstitious, but if you know me well enough you might correctly assume the event involves an orange ball and an orange krush. 'nuff said.

i'm so broke, guys. you have no idea.

'spartans knock buckeyes out of tie for big ten lead'

that was such a key win. go team! also, yay for being the first college basketball game to be broadcast in a wide screen/high definition format. high class broadcast for a high class team!

also, on an unrelated note... i guess it's an obvious idea, but it never occured to me. before the nba allstar game they sang the national anthem AND 'oh, canada'... go raptors! (go mo pete!)

i love jarrad (madly)!!!!

sometimes people actually listen to me when i beg for birthday presents, i guess.

now i'm going to watch 'pay it forward' and "marvel at the spectacle that is jon bon jovi's acting".

thanks, j-rod!

i had dreams about playing cards all night last night. maybe staying up til 3:30am playing 'pondscum' wasn't a good idea.

i'm supposed to be in class right now... but it's my birthday so i'm excused, right? good... cuz i be sleepy.

i want a birthday crown. i like to be sparkly.

and has anyone ever played Disney Trivia? i swear there is a question asking, 'does buzz lightyear glow in the dark?' or 'when is the only time buzz lightyear glows in the dark?' then the answer has something to do with the toy in the movie not glowing in the dark, but buzz in the video game in TS2 does glow in the dark. (following me?) anyway, i wish i could see that card again because it's wrong. buzz lightyear glows in the dark.

now i have important things to do like decide where to go for dinner and which pants to wear to the bar tonight, and should i make my hair curly or straight?

heaven has one more One-Eyed Huntin' Dog this week.

miss you, hunter!

ok, so the second wisest man i know said, "girl, you need therapy!" ok, he didn't. but he did encourage me to seek 'meetings' with the 'university', if ya know what i mean. (nudge, nudge)

if it's actually possible to scare your therapist 'meeting facilitator' away from the psycological profession after one 'meeting', i may have come close to doing that. i mean, we're not talking abnormal psych here or anything, but there is an awful lot going on inside my head... as most of you are probably aware i guess.

anyway, hysterical weeping ensued and the rest is history... til next week.

things:

1. don't forget my birthday is friday and that you love me.

2. don't forget i need a valentine and that you love me.

3. if you want to send me presents you can do so here.

HOOray for old navy clearance sections. seriously half the crap in old navy is junk, but for $1.97 i don't really see how one can go wrong...
BOOray for no one wanting to give me a job. i don't even think i could whore myself out, the job market is so bad.

it's cool though. now i know what i want to be when i grow up.
bank robber.

three more reasons to suspect i'm going crazy:

1. while singing the national anthem before the superbowl, nutcase mariah carey seemed relatively sane.

2. not only did i watch the superbowl... with 7 seconds left on the clock i found myself on my hands and knees in front of the television freaking out because the phone was ringing. who would call at such a ridiculous time!? while my roommates and i held our collective breath watching the football pass perfectly between the goal posts i thought to myself, 'when did i start watching football?'

3. instead of my normal routine of laying restlessly in bed staring at the ceiling and stressing about all i have to do, and my future, and what to wear tomorrow, and making myself miserable, last night i instead found myself staring at the ceiling sleeplessly stressing about someone ELSES future and potential and everything he should be doing. my life is crazy enough, thank you. kindly keep YOUR life out of my head. thanks. hehe

i think you guys still have plenty of time to order me birthday presents. they should get here before friday, don't you think?

ahem.

HOOray for wasting those pesky illini on the road!!!! it doesn't get any better than that. who gives a flip about the superbowl... i've had a quite satisfactory sports day already.

the best part was hearing the announcers repeatedly comment on how 'the orange crush' and other illini fans were such a non-factor for the game. they kept telling us you could hear a pin drop in the building during time outs. poor spartans... they aren't used to playing in such a dull arena.

BOOray for questioning your sobriety upon waking up on the most uncomfortable dorm room 'flip-and-SLEEP' on the planet.

HOOray for good fun out on the town and being told repeatedly how hot you are, even if the guys was a tool. hooray for making friends and hooray for b tackling social anxiety head on.

BOOray for lingering crumminess in the tumminess all afternoon. and booray for unidentified wetness sticking all my IDs, credit cards, etc. together.

HOOray for tall shoes, sparkly pants, and cleavage. hooray for drunken video games and doritos.

BOOray for spending entirely too much money in one 24 hour period.

HOOray for not writing emails like this while drunk. (thanks, The Mike

random things:

1. i have done my share of playing in the snow but i can't remember the last killer snowball fight i found myself in... until last night that is. we had a good 6 inches of perfect packing snow and at one point at least a dozen of us were teamed up against a handful of football players. thanks to brian, i came home with a bit of a fat lip... but he got his in the end. a couragous charge against the opposing 'team' found him flat on his back... a couple times. good fun was had by all.

2. i watched 'deep impact' last night. it's an ok movie, but a tearjerker nonetheless. and it sure makes you think. i mean, i didn't need that movie to tell me this, but seriously i would gladly choose to die standing with a handful of the people i care about than be forced to go on living without them. i don't think most people would make that choice... but that's who i am.

3. i have spent a lot of my life being mediocre at best, and more often than not, somewhat of a failure. i enjoy occasionally living vicariously through the accomplishments of others. i may not be the best at anything, but i'm a great cheerleader, supporter, and fan. when my friends do something well or accomplish something, i couldn't be happier if i had done it myself. so the side of success i see is the support, the cheering on, the praise. that's what i can offer, and because that's what i see and do i used to assume that when the day came that i ever did anything right, be it win a game of pool, gradute from college, or become the president of the united states, people would cheer for me too. my friends and family would pat me on the back and say, "well done". i guess people don't like to get beaten by their own cheerleaders, though. my success is only commendable when it doesn't come at the expense of those around me. (yes, i know i'm being ridiculous given some of the actual events that inspired this comment, but a little extrapolation leads me to wonder what reactions would be like to success of a more serious nature)

4. sometimes i say things i don't mean and later regret it because i don't like hurting my friends feelings. this afternoon it was all i could do to bite my tongue, but i did. i'm all too forgiving most of the time, and that has led to me becoming the resident doormat in a lot of my relationships with people. i don't like causing tension even if that means not sticking up for myself and telling people when they hurt my feelings. jokes are jokes, and that's fine. but just the right wrong comment from just the right person can sure sting.

unfortunately, like always, some of you have no idea what i'm talking about and if you do, well, sorry for being a little grumpy in your general direction. if i didn't think so highly of you, i wouldn't give a crap what names you call me.
